About Us

Timothy Luby is the founder and inventor of The Soccer Shot. Tim has lived and breathed soccer for 35 years. Having been skilled enough as a striker to qualify for the Philadelphia Fury professional soccer team when he was a teenager, but then subsequently suffering a career-ending knee injury, Luby has played or coached soccer since leaving his professional soccer playing days behind him. Luby is the former Vice Chairman of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association and former head coach for the varsity teams at Spruce Creek and Deltona High Schools in Florida.

"Soccer is my great passion," Luby said recently while warming up for his weekly 40 and up Premier League game. "I watch all the great international leagues, read the trade journals and am a die-hard fan of our US Men’s and Women’s national teams."

Thus, a few years ago, after having retired from the electronics manufacturing business and after having discussions with a major soccer equipment distributor, Luby's brain started really working on what kind of training tools were already out there. Most of the devices that teach players how to shoot are bulky and expensive, really only available for coaches, and certainly not practical for the individual soccer player. For the estimated 18 million youth soccer players in the US, there was no manageable and easily transportable product on the market. Ten of the 11 players on a team have to be able to score.

"As a coach and a striker myself, I knew the statistics: 50% of all goals are scored from a dead ball or free-kick position. It made sense to try to come up with a device that taught players how to score from the re-start. The Soccer Shot does that. It also teaches the goalkeeper how to position himself in goal. It really is the most practical and economical training tool out there."

The Soccer Shot, LLC is based in Orlando, Florida. The device has recently been endorsed by George Kuntz, head coach of the University of California, Irvine, which has had several players graduate to Major League Soccer. It is also used in the youth camps hosted by the Orlando City Lions of the United Soccer League.
